The UNESCO Chair on Anthropology of Traditional Music: Representing and Repositioning Intangible Cultural Heritage is pleased to announce a series of lectures by Prof. Pavlos Kavouras exploring the intersection of sound and the sacred in human experience.
The series will examine fundamental questions about our relationship with sound and the sacred: What constitutes the everyday sacred? What defines the sacred in major rituals? What is the sacred within a ritual or an aesthetic performance? This exploration will investigate whether human consciousness can comprehend the sacred through sound in ways that transcend traditional methodological approaches. The lectures will delve into the dual nature of sound as both vibration and movement, while exploring its connection to unity and self-awareness.
This partnership between The UNESCO Chair on Anthropology of Traditional Music and the B & M Theocharakis Foundation for this series represents an important bridge between academic research and cultural institutions, fostering broader public engagement with intangible cultural heritage and its contemporary relevance. Through our Chairholder Prof. Pavlos Kavouras, we continue to strengthen our engagement with key cultural institutions in Athens.
